Owner of Plants For Dry Places -Susan Frommer and I met a couple of years ago through our association and voluntary work with Rancho California’s Water Advisory Committee for Water Efficiency. Around that time, we collaborated on a residential Xeriscape project consisted of mostly California native plants for a 2.5 acre residence. Susan worked closely with the homeowner’s to include every detail into the final plan and Susan and I have been working together since.
Susan graduated from UCR with a BA in Zoology and training in Botany and field identification of California native plants. She holds a Certificate in Horticulture from Mira Costa College.
Susan started a plant nursery in 1985 specializing in California native and Mediterranean climate plants to meet the growing needs for drought tolerant plants for inland Southern California landscapes and to offer design services for these types of landscapes.
She sold the nursery business in 1999 to concentrate on Plants for dry Places and Landscape Design. She has taught classes/seminars for UCR Extension and various local water districts (Western MWD, Eastern MWD, Rancho California, La Habra) on Landscape Design, Sprinkler Design, and Drip
Irrigation Design and continues to do so for UCR.
Her home garden was on the Santa Rosa Plateau Garden Tour for 9 of the 10 years that the tour was held
She has been the Secretary of our local Southwest Riverside County FireSafe Council since 2006.
Knowledgeable about designing landscapes for fire safety.
She and a co- worker were responsible for all the signage at WMWD’s “Landscapes Southern California Style” demonstration garden and Susan also did some of the design work on it back in 1989.
